Saturation signals
How to read Shopify app category saturation at market-map level
A crowded category is not automatically bad, and a quiet category is not automatically good. The first pass should classify why a category is crowded, where merchants still complain, and whether a public report can explain the risk.
Severe
Many mature incumbents, broad feature overlap, heavy theme or checkout surfaces, and aggressive pricing differentiation.
High
Visible incumbents with repeated merchant pain, but category can still support benchmark and risk-map reports.
Moderate
Enough public demand to study, with fewer obvious all-in-one incumbents and clearer report angles.
Public-Safe Signals
Use app listing metadata, public pricing pages, official docs, and compact complaint theme summaries. Record observed dates because pricing and ratings change.
Blocked Signals
Do not harvest review dumps, bypass login walls, copy threads, or turn internal build recipes into public SEO content.
